Cells Made Simple: GarageBand/iMovie Productions in Grade 8 Science

Production studio in room 703

I am continuously impressed with the talent my students have when it comes to working with GarageBand and iMovie. After a quick introduction to the assignment, a little bit of instruction, and five class periods, my grade 8 Science students came up with these ‘Cells Made Simple’ productions. What fun to see the classroom turn into a production studio; how great it is to see the kids so engaged, working together, enjoying the learning. Last year this was one of our integrated Science/Design Technology projects; this year we just assessed it in Science. After each showing, students had the opportunity to peer assess the production through a ‘choice’ in Moodle. Along with their production each group handed in quiz questions based on the content in their clip- what more fun can you have after a premiere party than showing what you know by taking a quiz on Moodle?

Below is perhaps one of my favorites, but of course I think they’re all great.
